Frequently Asked Questions
What is the LNAT?
The LNAT (National Admissions Test for Law) is a standardised test used by several top UK universities as part of the selection process for undergraduate law degrees. It consists of two parts: Part A: 42 multiple-choice questions testing reading comprehension and logical reasoning. Part B: An essay on a general topic, limited to 750 words, assessing your argumentation and writing clarity. The LNAT is taken annually by thousands of students worldwide and is the only test that directly evaluates the skills needed to think like a law student.
Which Universities require me to sit the LNAT?
As of Summer 2025, the following universities require the LNAT for undergraduate law applicants*:
University of Oxford
University College London (UCL)
King’s College London (KCL)
London School of Economics (LSE)
University of Bristol
Durham University
SOAS University of London
University of Glasgow
Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS)*
*Always consult the official LNAT website (www.lnat.ac.uk) for the most up-to-date list.
What is a “good” score?
Average LNAT scores typically range between 20 and 23. However, successful applicants to competitive institutions like Oxford, UCL, or LSE usually score 28 or higher.
A score of 35 or above is considered exceptional and may significantly strengthen your university application.
How much does the LNAT Matter in my application?
The LNAT is often a key factor in determining admission to law courses at top universities. It’s the only standardised academic measure that evaluates your ability to read, argue, and write like a future lawyer.
While it is just one part of your application, a strong LNAT score can provide a crucial competitive edge — especially when combined with a compelling personal statement, high grades, and strategic university choices. I allow students not only to achieve LNAT excellence, but to make it inevitable.
